Good morning!
Text:  Luke 1-3; Psalm 92
Today’s passages are very rich. We do not know much about Jesus’ earthly life before His ministry began at about age thirty.  Only Luke’s Gospel gives us any detail, and it is sparse.  But this verse tells us that Jesus grew:
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. (Luke 2:52)
Our entire life as Christians is about growth – we must be increasing this very day in our likeness to Jesus.  The verse shows us that Jesus’ growth is four-fold:
  1. Wisdom – the intellectual life.
  2. Stature – life in the physical dimension (health, fitness, material possessions).
  3. Favor with God – the spiritual life
  4. Favor with… man – our social life.
When I was a kid, there was a door frame in the hallway with pencil marks and dates that marked our progress as we grew.  As Jesus’ followers, how are we doing?  In all four dimensions?  I am challenged in this as I do a little self assessment.  In each of these four dimensions, can I report any recent growth?
