Text: Genesis 21-23; Psalm 8
In Genesis 22 we read the incredible story where Abraham is asked to sacrifice his precious son, Isaac, to the Lord. The angel stays Abraham’s hand, Isaac is spared, and the Lord then provides a ram for the sacrifice. The text says (22:14):
So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of theLord it shall be provided.”
Of course, we can apply this story to Jesus, as the Lord did indeed provide Jesus to be the sacrifice in our place. He even did so at the very same place – the mountain top where Isaac was offered is in fact the temple mount in Jerusalem. We cannot ever provide salvation for ourselves, but the Lord is able, and He did. Indeed, the Lord will provide!
The Lord as provider includes every provision for our life, our souls, and our eternity. Do you have a need this day? Is there something where you need theLord’s provision? Maybe it is material, or maybe not (peace, wisdom, restoration, hope, joy, love). Take note – the Lord made the provision only after Abraham’s complete (and I would say profound) obedience. Isaac was bound and the knife was raised. And, the Lord made provision at the very last minute. So, again, do you have a need? Are you surrendered to Him fully? Are you willing to wait for His timing. If so, take heart, because “The Lord will provide”.
in Him, Mike
