Good morning!
Text: Exodus 25-27; Proverbs 4
Proverbs is a book of wisdom – precept after precept that have been proven true. Chapter 4 contains instructions from a father to a son. The wisdom gained by living life while walking with the Lord belongs to the elder. It is God’s plan that it be passed along from one generation to the next. Do we seek older people for insight and instruction? Are we attentive when the older folks speak wisdom into our lives? Sadly, we live in a time where progress in our understanding of the material world has misled us into thinking that older things are less useful, obsolete. That may be true of cars and aircraft, but not when it comes to wisdom.
One verse that caught my eye this morning is 4:18 —
…the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
You and I, if we have come to Jesus, are “the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). The words of this verse are speaking two things to my heart. First, the path we are walking becomes easier to see as we continue to walk. Just like the early morning hours – first light is gray and dim, but soon the light of day will blaze. Keep walking, stick to the path, I hear the Lord saying – and things will become more clear. Second, I also am hearing the Lord’s voice reminding me that he told us that we are “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). And I am hearing a challenge: “Am I shining brighter as I get older?” Today is a good day to shine!
in Him, Mike
