Today is a reflection day.
Isaiah is rich and beautiful literature that spans many emotions. Often, the Lord Himself speaks with clarity and power through this prophet. How about this verse?
I form light and create darkness;
I make well-being and create calamity;
I am the Lord, who does all these things. (Isaiah 45:7)
I recently met with a woman experiencing great difficulty in her life. Her anguished cry was “Why? Why is this happening to me?” These words remind us of a powerful truth – that God’s plan includes all things. Light and darkness are created by God. Well being come from Him, and so does calamity. While this does not release us from responsibility for our sin, it does reassure us that He is in complete control. Bad things do not surprise the Lord. Rather, He is at work in them. Bad things do His bidding. Some great news is that we know that He is always good. More good news is that He is always in control.
