Today is a reflection day.
1 Corinthians 15 brings a lengthy treatise on the resurrection – its reality, meaning and power for our lives. It concludes with these words:
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58)
As summer ripens and fall approaches, I seem to have slowed down for few weeks. Soon I will take a week off. This is a good thing as far as getting refreshment to be strong and energetic for what lies ahead. But any pause must be a temporary. The words of this verse remind us that we are in this for life, and we are to charge hard. We are running a marathon, so managing our resources for the long haul is wise. That said, we are always to be about the Lord’s work, never giving up, always resolute, ever seeking fruit for the Kingdom. “Retirement” is not an option.
Why? The verse begins with the word “therefore.” That points us to the reason – the resurrection. We have been made immortal and given victory over death. We have the sacred charge to share this with others. What could be more important than that?
