Lord of Armies

Good Morning!
Christ is Risen!
Text: Joshua 4-6; Psalm 53.
The Lord spoke a big picture idea to me in this morning’s reading in Joshua.  In Chapter 4, we see the people building stone piles to commemorate what the Lord has done.  In Chapter 5 we see the people exercising their closeness with the Lord.  They make sure all the males are circumcised, renewing their covenant obedience.  They celebrate the Passover, worshiping Him as a community.  Then, the “commander of the army of the Lord” appears to Joshua.  Scholars (and I) agree that this is a pre-incarnate visit from Jesus – affirming God’s promise in Joshua 1:9 –
” Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Then, in Chapter 6 we see the marvel of the fall of Jericho as the people just do as they are told; marching, trumpeting and shouting.
So, here is the big picture:  God is behind us.  God is before us.  And God is with us.
The Lord has done great things before (like our own salvation) – remember them.  God has already gone before us and assured our victory – trust Him.  Our job is to stay tight with Him in devotion, worship and everyday obedience.  He is always with us.
Who knows what great and marvelous triumph lies just ahead.
