Text: Deuteronomy 27-30; Psalm 48
Having given all of the Law, the Word in today’s Deuteronomy text focuses on making a strong appeal to obedience. Blessings for those who obey are laid out, and curses for those who do not. A passage that speaks to me is this:
“For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it. (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)
God’s Word is not distant and mysterious. He wants us to know Him, so He gave us His Word. He wants us to be blessed, so He made His Word available. He wants to bless our obedience, so He made it easy to know what His will is. Are we not blessed to know the way? Are we not blessed to know His truth? Oh, that we would walk in His ways and His Word.
in Him, Mike
