Good morning!
Text: Job 1-3; Psalm 119:145-160
Job is characterized as the most intellectually challenging books of the Bible. Many scholars also believe it to be the oldest – written before the time of Moses. The stage is set when Job, a man who “was blameless and upright,” has his possessions, his children and his health stripped away be Satan. Satan is attempting to demonstrate that Job’s faith in the Lord is false. Satan in all this remains under God’s sovereign restraint. As we read this book, we will uncover mysteries about how God, evil and men relate – all to the glory of God.
A key verse is 1:21, when following the loss of his possessions and children, Job says:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Here is a challenge: Is our relationship with the Lord so durable that it could withstand the total loss of our possessions and loved ones?
