Text” Colossians 1 (1 Chronicles 15-16)
Another great “epistle” prayer is found in Colossians 1:1-9:
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
At the core of this prayer is the idea that if we ask, the Lord is able to fill us with the knowledge of His will. When we need direction in life, this is a powerful prayer. The word “fill” here means to be filled to the very brim, and when we ask this of the Lord we must not sell Him short. When He answers, He indeed fills. When He wants us to know His will it does not come like some vague feeling nor is it like a whiff of wood smoke. When God speaks, He overwhelms. Uncertain about God’s will? Pray this prayer.
in Him, Mike
