“Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet…” (Ezekiel 37:9-10).
Text: Ezekiel 37-40; Ecclesiastes 8
There is an incredible vision in Ezekiel 37 of a valley filled with old dry bones coming back to life. The bones are an image of the spiritually desolate nation of Israel and we see how God can bring new life to those who have wandered from Him. In Ezekiel’s vision, the Lord tells the prophet to speak to the bones and to:
Many of us are burdened over “prodigals” – people who once were close to God but today are not practicing their faith. Many of us are heartbroken over them. This prophecy shows us that the dry bones of our prodigals might come alive, that the breath of God might restore them to Himself. What a wonderful hope we have that our great God can make dry bones live! Let’s expectantly pray to that end.
