Good morning!

Text: Jeremiah 7-9; Isaiah 13
When I was in seminary, I had a classmate from Africa who led a ministry to broken people in his native Zimbabwe called “The Balm of Gilead.”  That name was from this verse:

Is there no balm in Gilead?
Is there no physician there?
Why then has the health of the daughter of my people
not been restored?  (Jeremiah 8:22)

The Lord is asking why His people are suffering when there is healing so very close at hand – in Gilead.  So many people suffer when the healing they seek is right there for them.  The Lord who loves them is close.  He has promised this; “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Yet, the people suffer because they will not reach out to him.  Their shields are up, there resistance to Him and to His love is so strong that they have cut themselves off from His healing love and power.  Are you suffering right now?  He is close at hand.  Lower your shields.  Surrender your pride and your fear.  He is the God of all comfort, the Father of mercies.  Turn to Him and receive His soothing balm, His healing touch.
in Him, Mike
