Text: 2 Thessalonians 1 (2 Chronicles 3-4)
Like every form of life, the Christian life is about growth and increase.
We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. (2 Thessalonians 1:3)
When we first come to put our trust in Jesus, the Word of God uses the expression “born again” to describe what happens to us. We start a new life, like a newborn baby. And then we grow, and grow and grow. Today’s word speaks to two sorts of growth. The first is growth in our “faith.” As we live in Christ and experience His ability to do anything and His constant and good character. Every experience deepens our trust of Him and our understanding of His power and His goodness. Our faith grows. We also experience and practice His love – which has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit – and that too grows and grows. The increase of love is the second sort of growth. Both of these forms of growth – in faith and in love – are all about relationships, aren’t they? So, here’s a challenge: What are you going to do today to grow in your relationship with the Lord? …with others?
