Good morning!
Text: 1 Timothy 1-3; Psalm 119:49-64.
1 Timothy is known as a “pastoral epistle”, a letter giving instructions to a church leader about how life in the church should be. This letter is a rich resource for us today as we seek to be all we can be for the Lord. Consider these words:
I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:14-15)
After establishing the author, Paul’s, intent, there are two ideas about the nature of the church here. We are the church of the living God. He is alive, and we are an extension of that life. He is alive, and as the church we live in an ongoing relationship with Him, changing, moving, responding, growing. And the church is a pillar and buttress of the truth. In a world awash in deceit, falsehoods and dangerous ideas, we must always stand firmly upon the truth of the Word of God and the truth of Jesus (I am the way, the truth and the life… He said).
in Him, Mike
