Text: Ephesians 1; 2 Kings 21-22
Ephesians opens with a profound statement of just how blessed we are in Christ. Chosen by the Father, redeemed by Jesus and sealed by the Holy Spirit, our situation is simply amazing. Chapter 1 also includes a prayer that we would “get it”, that we would know the riches, know the hope and know…
“…the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”
I think of all the things of this life over which I have n power – the choices our family members make, the whims of heath, the disturbing ways of the world around us. I think of the worries and concerns and questions of how to deal with this or that. And I think of having feelings of helplessness, of powerlessness. Then I think upon these words. Brothers, sisters, in Christ Jesus we are plugged into the “immeasurable greatness” of His power. In Jesus there is power over death and over every aspect of this life. This power is ours. “Powerless” has no place in our vocabulary.
