Good morning!

Text:  Galatians 1;  2 Kings 9-10

How do we feel when others tell us how great we are?  Or how about when it is clear that there are people who disapprove of us?  I know I like approval, and I dislike disapproval.  However, when it gets right down to it, what matters is just who is doing the approving.  I know some real jerks whose disapproval would to be a badge of victory to me.  So… just whose approval do we seek?  Galatians 1:10 says,
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
That word “servant” is actually best translated “slave.” It speaks to a relationship where Jesus is absolutely in charge, and I am absolutely not.  And the verse teaches that the minute I put the approval of other people in my thinking, I am “off the reservation.”  If my mind goes to “what are they going to think?”,  it is time to stop cold, and get realigned with Jesus.  It doesn’t matter what “they” think as long as I am seeking to serve my Lord Jesus.  If my feelings are hurt or I am angry because I think I am not appreciated by people, then I am in big spiritual trouble.
If I have done my best for the Lord and not a single human notices, praise the Lord.  If I am an offense in the Name of Jesus, praise God!  If I am a sweet attraction to others when I am following Jesus, praise God then as well.  The point of division is in my heart – whose approval do I seek?   It only matters that I am obediently serving my wonderful Savior and Lord Jesus.
in Him,  Mike
