Good morning!
Text: 2 Chronicles 31-33; Psalm 109
God did a great and wonderful thing when He defended Jerusalem against the Assyrians. Having invaded and decimated the northern Kingdom of Israel, they threaten and lay siege to the city. When they Assyrians are threatening, they try to discourage and frighten the Hebrews. They disparage the Lord God. 2 Chronicles 32:19 says;
And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
Isn’t that just like today’s world? Our great God is so often spoken of in terms that would diminish Him to the thoughts, ideas and accomplishments of mere humans. But, He is so high above, so lofty, so completely other. After hearing the Assyrian threats, King Hezekiah and Isaiah the prophet pray – and the Lord strikes down the Assyrian assault and even the Assyrian king himself. No matter how the world might speak of Him, our God is a fortress, a shield, and untouchable. He is able to defeat any foe, and He will always prevail.
