Text: 1 Corinthians 12-14; Psalm 100
These chapters in 1 Corinthians teach us much about God’s plan for His Church. A verse that caught the underline of my pencil is 14:12 –
So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.
These words come in the context of clarifying the roles of prophecy and speaking in tongues in the church. The basic issue is that the things of our spiritual life that build ourselves up are to take a back seat to the things that build up the whole body. It is the difference between “me” and “us”, and the “us” is more important.
So… how important is the building up of your church family to you? Do you speak encouragement into your church? Do you share your stories of the goodness of God with the other people? What matters more to you, your own spiritual well being, or that of your brothers and sisters?
