Text: 2 Corinthians 3; 1 Kings 9-10
There are so many forms that human captivity takes. There is captivity to other humans, whether governing tyrants, slave owners, prison wardens or abusive spouses. Then there is captivity to appetites and habits, like substance abuse and anger. We can become captives to self, consumed with thoughts of conceit on the one hand and low self esteem on the other. And we can be taken captive by Satan who blinds and deceives, and captive to all that our sin brings – pain, sorrow, guilt and shame. Ultimately, in our humanity we are captive to death itself. Given all that, consider these wonderful words:
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
When we come to Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit. He takes up residence in our lives. When He does, He brings us freedom. In Christ we are free from others, free from our habits, free from ourselves and free from Satan. In Christ we are free from sin, guilt, shame and even death. Free to live, free to love, completely free. Free! May we enjoy our freedom to the fullest.
in Him, Mike
