Good morning!

Text:  Colossians; Psalm 77
Colossians is a rich yet compact treatise on our Christian life.  One challenging gemstone can be found in Colossians 4:5-6 –

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.  Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

For me, a lot of my interactions with people outside the body of Christ are friendly as long as things stay superficial.  I chat with neighbors about their gardens or some shared irritant like a noisy dog that was barking late one night.  When the conversation turns to something more controversial – partisan politics, Roe v Wade, LGBTQ issues – the heat in the kitchen can go up.  Christians can get into some pretty unfriendly exchanges, especially on social media.  So, how are we as believers to be when we interact with people with whom we disagree?  “Gracious,” says God’s Word.  That takes some preparation, especially a commitment not to get into a fight.

How about you?  Will you cross paths with people outside God’s household today?  Will you be kind, even if the topic makes you hot under the collar?  Are you ready?
in Him, Mike
