Good morning!

Text: 2 Kings 22-25; Psalm 91
Today’s reading in 2 Kings ends with the start of the Babylonian captivity of the Jews.  The last “good” king is Josiah.  Hilkiah the high priest discovers the Book of the Law, and it is read before the king.

When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes. (2 Kings 22:11)

These words remind me of how potent the Word of God is.  King Josiah falls under serious conviction over the sin of the nation, and he tears his clothes. Sometimes we have that same reaction as our sin comes into the light. Other times we experience peace, delight, hope and the warmth of God’s love.  Whenever we encounter His Word, as we read it or hear it spoken, it touches us and changes us.  Are we not blessed to have His Word available to us each whenever we choose to open it up?  May we never neglect the privilege!
