Text: Romans 10; 1 Samuel 15-16
When the Lord leads Samuel to the household of Jesse to anoint a new king for Israel, the older brothers of the king-to-be, David, are presented. The eldest, Eliab certainly looks the part…
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
As the saying goes, “You cannot judge a book by its cover.” How we appear on the outside matters not. Above all else, what matters to the Lord is the condition of our hearts. In view of this truth, how curious that we can care so much about how we appear, both physical appearance and behavior/reputation. We work so hard to manage the impression we make on others. But the Lord knows our hearts, and that’s where He places value. So… how is your heart?
