Good morning!

Text:  Acts 2  (Deuteronomy 27-28)

In Acts 2 we see the very birth of the Church.  The promised Holy Spirit comes with power, the Gospel is proclaimed in that power for the first time, and 3,000 believe.  The Church of Jesus Christ has come!   The description of the newborn church gives us a picture of the essentials:

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.  And all who believed were together and had all things in common.  And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.  And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.  (Acts 2:42-47)

The basic ingredients are all here, a model for us today as we “do” church.  They were devoted to the Bible, to their relationships with one another, to worshiping together and to prayer.  They lived their faith every single day – lives characterized by abundant generosity, selflessness and being fully immersed in Christ.  They were grateful  They praised God.  And their belief in Jesus was contagious.  Just imagine…
