Good morning!
Today is a reflection day.
On “reflection days,” we have no assigned reading.  It’s a great time to get caught up and also a day to double back and think about recent reading.  I look for passages I have underlined.  One that made me pause is in the story of David inquiring of the Lord as to whether he should go up against the Philistines.  The Lord says to him (2 Samuel 6:24):
“And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then rouse yourself, for then the Lord has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.”
The image this conjures up is of the Lord’s great angel Army – invisible yet powerful – above the heads of David and the enemy.  It is a clear reminder that we are not alone in our battles.  When we are in a spiritual or even temporal battle, the Lord’s army is always at hand.  This picture is a great help for me – saying to me that since I fear the Lord I need never fear another.
So… what has you afraid today?  Is there some battle being waged or a threat out there that has you unsettled?  Listen closely – for the sound of marching in the treetops!  You are not alone.
