Text: John 2; Numbers 21-22
John 2 opens with a description of Jesus’ first miracle, turning water into wine. The Lord used this story to bring me to salvation, as it had the same effect upon me as it had on his disciples:
This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. (John 2:11)
The miracle takes place at a wedding feast where the wine has run out. All they have is water, which is not useful for the task at hand. In a moment of power and authority, Jesus is able to transform the useless into the useful, the poor into the rich. When I heard this story, I identified with the water. I had been in a personal struggle and I was coming to grips with my own sin. I felt useless and helpless. I actually identified with the water. Just like the disciples, I saw His glory and put my trust in Him. He could make me whole. In my silent prayer, I asked Jesus to do a miracle in my life, and in that moment He changed me forever. I was saved and I was all new. Amazing grace!
in Him, Mike
