“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). (Matthew 1:23)
Text: Matthew 1-4; Psalm 60
In Matthew’s account of Jesus’ birth, we read clearly of how the virgin birth fulfills the words of the prophet Isaiah.
Of course, Jesus left heaven and came to earth as a man to be “God with us.” But He also reconciled us to God on the cross and made it possible for us to be with God. And after His resurrection and ascension back to heaven, the Holy Spirit came to be God within us.
Today, right now, the promise of Jesus to be “with us” is fulfilled. You and I have the constant companionship and power of the Living God – with us. That means today – this day – we can and should live in His presence. He is here, and will be with you and me every minute of the day today. Cool, right? And a little scary, too.
