Text: Luke 20; Numbers 9-10
Luke 20 finds us in the account of events that took place on Tuesday of the week when Jesus was crucified (on Friday). The religious leaders and Jesus have several confrontations as they challenge Jesus in vain attempts to trip Him up. Jesus tells them a parable about rejecting authority and then speaks to them directly:
But he looked directly at them and said, “What then is this that is written:
“‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’? Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”
To stand against Jesus is profound folly – He is the rock that either is the firm foundation of eternal life or the rock that crushes. He comes to deliver, to save, and those who receive Him are blessed forever, forgiven and granted eternal life. Jesus saves! But those who reject Him face certain destruction. You cannot get more clear than that.
