Text: Numbers 34-36; Psalm 37:23-40
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Amid all the “wearing of the green” and such, it is encouraging to remember that the big deal with Patrick is that he brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Ireland. In today’s reading we find these words:
Turn away from evil and do good;
so shall you dwell forever. (Psalm 37:27)
This simple verse from this Psalm of David paves the way for the Gospel truth. When Jesus began to proclaim the Good News, His opening word was “Repent!” which means to “turn away.” This is the first call of God in the Gospel. Speaking to us as sinners in big trouble, Jesus calls us to turn. As we come to Him, He welcomes us into new lives lived for Jesus. To live for Jesus is to do good. Our final destination is eternal life. The Gospel truth – may we be faithful to proclaim it and to live it.
in Him, Mike
