Good morning!

Text:  Mark 8 (Exodus 21-22)

Jesus speaks with force when it comes to the level of commitment a true follower must have.  Jesus demands our complete surrender – the giving over of our very lives to Him and to the proclamation of the Gospel:

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. (Mark 8:35)

In our flesh we are wired to strive to keep what we have – our life, our possessions, our accomplishments, our status, our relationships.  We are all about “saving” our lives, preserving the status quo.  But Jesus calls us to new life.  In our new life in Christ, everything changes.  Our hearts are made new – that is good news.  But all the trappings that make our lives our own are up for renewal. and that can mean bulldozers and dynamite.  Jesus transforms us into new creations, and when the old things must go, we experience loss and even pain.  But – the new life is worth giving it all away.  So, how about it?  Are you ready to lose your life for the sake of Jesus and the Gospel?  If you are, Jesus says in so doing you “will save it.”

in Him, Mike
