Text: Revelation 8; Amos 3-4
When the present age comes to an end, the Lord will visit great judgments upon the earth. Revelation depicts them as being announced by the opening of seven seals, the sounding of seven trumpets and the pouring out of seven bowls. The imagery is vivid and frightening.
When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. (Revelation 8:1)
The visions of heaven up to this point portray continuous worship and noise. But here we encounter silence. It signals the gravity of what God is doing. The heavens and the earth, having been created by God, have been long infected with evil, sin, decay and death. God is about to make everything new, but as He does, He will bring great desolation upon all things. For that which is unclean, impure, unholy and evil, it will be absolutely dreadful. As the seventh seal is opened here, the destruction is about to commence. And all the heavenly creatures, the angels, the saints, everything and everyone on heaven is moved to take silent pause. It will be a grave, heavy and intense moment. Now, the Good News. When all is said and done, the heavens and the earth will be all new, fresh, clean, pure and inhabited by the redeemed of Christ. Hallelujah!
in Him, Mike
