Good morning!

Text: 1 Peter 1 (Job 3-4)

What do we expect of the day today? Do we expect routine things, calm and collected activities, and freedom from surprises or chaos? When I served in the Navy, even when we were steaming in fine weather well away from land and potential adversaries, we always knew things could get “interesting” in a hurry. So we always had people on watch – lookouts and such. In today’s reading (1 Peter is a favorite of mine), these words caught my mind and heart:

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:13)

Are we ready for “action” every day? Are we “sober-minded” – clear headed and serious about what matters? It sounds like we ought to be ready for some excitement today – and every day. After all, we serve a God of great power and glory, and we are engaged in a life-or-death war for the souls of the people all around us.
