Text: Revelation 1; Job 35-36
Revelation is an amazing book. In it, Jesus allows us to see marvelous and mysterious things about Himself, about His Church and about the future. Jesus appears to John, the author, in a vision (1:12-16) that reminds us of the vision Daniel has (in Daniel 7:9). An important verse follows – Revelation 1:17:
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead…
Make no mistake. Jesus is awesome, frightening even. When we see Him face-to-face it will be wondrous, but our good and proper response will be to dive for the ground. He will be so overwhelming, so powerful, so holy and pure that the only place for us will be on our faces. The rest of the verse is incredibly reassuring, as it says,
But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last…”
Jesus is scary awesome, but He also loves us and cares for us. Jesus makes it possible for us to be close to a very scary God. Amazing.
in Him, Mike
