Text: 1 John 2; Job 21-22
We live in a tension between the fallen world around us and the Kingdom of God of which we are citizens.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life — is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)
It would be a delight to be set free from the world and its lures and troubles and delivered into the beautiful and perfect domain of God – all goodness, light and joy. But we are yet living in the flesh and so we struggle. Today’s Word reminds us that our victory lies in our choice of whom we love. If we love the Father, the things of this world will lose their appeal. The “love” spoken of here is the love of commitment, choice, self control and will – not the love of feelings and desires. This is the love of action. The Word here is putting the choice before us – love the world or love the Father. We are called to choose our heavenly Father. And that in that choice we will act by doing His will.
in Him, Mike
