But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 3:13)
Text: 2 Peter 3; Job 17-18
The news is full of disturbing stories. The pandemic is intensifying. The political climate is toxic. Video of street violence adds to the impression that the whole world is catching on fire. The evil seems to be everywhere. These things are in fact signs that the end of the age is approaching. Lest we get downcast, we need to remember our hope:
This world is indeed falling apart. But we will be getting a new one soon. He has promised this, so we can “take it to the bank.” And in this new world to come, righteousness will dwell. That means all will be “right.” No more sin, violence, sickness, tears, sorrow nor death. And while we wait for that day, we live for Him and for His Kingdom… living “lives of holiness and godliness.” (2 Peter 3:11). Sounds like a good plan for today.
