Text: Hosea 5-8; Song of Solomon 3
The voice of the prophets is at once sharp and warning, then comforting and hopeful. The prophet’s voice matches the heart of God – pure and holy while at the same time loving and compassionate. Hear these words of promise:
“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;
his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3)
The people in Hosea’s time lived without streetlights or electricity. Night was dark. And dark is where evil waits. They also lived in a dry land where seasonal rains were the source of water for their agriculture and their food, needful for life itself.
Dawn brings light that delivers from darkness. Rain brings water for life. These words reminds us that deliverance and life are “sure” when our trust is in the Lord. When we press on to know Him, our hope is established. Dawn will come. The showers will fall. And we will be set free and live.
