Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
Text: Hebrews 4; Ezra 7-8
Hebrews is rich with detail, and is certainly not fluffy reading! As I read through these passages, many verses have already attracted my underlining pencil. This one spoke to me today:
You and I, if we know Jesus, have this incredible privilege called prayer. We can approach the throne of the One who is unapproachable. We can do so boldly. And there we can find mercy and grace. Mercy is of great value when we need it most – and that would be when we have sinned. It is against our nature to go to one whom we have offended, but God tells us to come to Him. And he tells us to come with confidence, knowing that He promises us mercy. Grace is “unmerited favor.” And when we have a need in our lives and ask God for help, He has promised us His good favor even when we deserve it the least. What an amazing offer this verse has for us. Prayer is wonderful. May we deeply appreciate the gift that it is. And may we never neglect our great privilege.
in Him, Mike
