Text: Exodus 12-14; Psalm 23
Today’s text is rich indeed! We read of the escape from Egypt along with the powerful and intimate words of the 23rd Psalm. Where to begin? In my reading of these passages, this caught my attention:
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. (Exodus 13:21)
Wouldn’t that be wonderful? To have such clarity from the Lord each day as to which way to go and when would be so refreshing. So often we wander along feeling lost, wondering and asking the Lord, “Which way?”
The truth is, many times we come to a decision point and actually have much more clear direction than we think. We just need to ask a few questions. Like this one: “Do I know what the Bible says about this?” Or, “Have I taken the time to pray?” Or, “Have I asked my (wise and mature) Christian friends what they think?” We may not have pillars of fire and of cloud, but we do have God’s very Word, access to His very presence through prayer, and we are surrounded by people who are indwelt by God’s Holy Spirit. Next time you feel lost, know that the same God who led the Hebrews out of Egypt loves you and wants to show you the way.
in Him, Mike
