Text: Matthew 19 (Genesis 37-38)
Jesus challenges a rich man seeking eternal life to sell all his possessions and give the money away. Sadly the man declines. Then Jesus instructs the disciples that it is very unlikely for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God – actually it is harder than passing a camel through a needle’s eye (ie impossible). They despair at this, to which Jesus replies:
“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
In the immediate context, this is great news for rich people – they too can be saved. But Jesus’ statement is also true in a more general context. With God, salvation can come to the hardest heart. With God, healing can come to the sickest person. With God, the deepest sorrow can be replaced by joy. Even the dead can come back to life. Is there something, some situation, some burden in your life that you have given up on? What are your impossibilities? I invite you to look at them again with Jesus’ Word here in mind. “…with God all things are possible.” Hallelujah!
in Him, Mike
