Text: Isaiah 13-16; Proverbs 4
Proverbs is a book of wisdom, a collection of precepts for our lives to go well as we walk in God’s ways. Consider these words:
Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
The heart is like a spring of water. It is the source from which the stream of our life flows. The heart is the seat of all that we are. From the attitudes and thoughts within come all that we say and do. The key to all of life is to guard our heart with great care and vigilance. That means to pay close attention to those desires and attitudes that are not so godly. It means to take care of what we put into our hearts as we choose what voices we will hear, what images we will see, what places we will visit, what activities we will pursue and what company we will keep. As we keep that spring of life from pollution and defilement, the stream of our life flow pure and clean.
