Good morning!

Text:  Matthew 14 (Genesis 27-28)

In today’s text we see Jesus interacting with large crowds of people, healing many, and feeding them all a miraculous meal of bread and fish.  We can imagine great needs and overwhelming numbers.   There were certainly enough people to minister to so that Jesus could have served them 24-7 all three years of His earthly ministry without serving them all.  After a powerful day of ministry, we find him doing this:

And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone… (Matthew 14:23)

I often struggle to set aside prayer time given a busy schedule.  And yet Jesus did.  In fact, I believe He chose to leave people in their needs and suffering in order to spend time with the Father.  To me that speaks volumes.  For starters, spending time with the Lord in prayer is most important, even if it means temporal things wait.  And another thought – the Lord can take care of the needs of people better than I can.  In fact, He can do it all without me.  So to pray much makes great sense.
