Text: Matthew 10; Genesis 19-20
When Jesus teaches about choosing Him and the cost of doing so, He speaks sharply:
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)
In our everyday lives, most of us want to get along well with those around us – no hassles, no conflicts, no worries. When Jesus comes into our lives, however, He brings the sword of division. To choose Jesus is to choose a life that is at odds with the world and the people of the world. We become odd, peculiar, different from the world, an offense even. It is uncomfortable and for some Christians worse than that, but it is spiritual reality. Jesus is good, light and life, and so in this world filled with evil, the darkness and death fights back. Is it painful? Yes. But when Jesus wins and the evil, darkness and death are no more, what a glorious Day it will be!
